In This Light She’s Under brings together photographs of home in order to build a poetic portrait of family and queer maternity. Using the camera as both a mirror and a canvas, the photographs tenderly examine domestic intimacy while invoking a shared gaze and mythic ambivalence towards motherhood.

Kat Shannon is an artist and educator currently based between São Paulo, Brazil, and Orlando, Florida.

Driven by the desire to continually examine the complex role photography plays in our lives, culture, and collective memory, her work uses the image as a tool to explore notions of intimacy, connection, and community.  She holds degrees in photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (BFA) and Bard College (MFA).
